With the ever increasing quantity of sensitive material held by the public sector about citizens, there is a desire for people to know what is held about them, and great risks in failing to handle it appropriately. The General Data Protection Regulations come into force on 25 May 2018, and public bodies need to be prepared to meet its requirements. So we are delighted to announce that Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham will be our keynote speaker talking about information rights and the statutory responsibilities of public bodies. This will be a joint event with PCF’s sister organisation the Association of Chief Executives.

The PCF is delighted to welcome Max Tse, Executive Leader for Digital Transformation at the National Audit Office to speak to members. This seminar will be an opportunity to discuss the role of Chairs to oversee the delivery and monitor the risk involved in digital transformation programmes. Joining Max on the panel will be Oliver Morley current CEO of DVLA and soon to be CEO of the Pensions Protection Fund, Charlie Ewen Chief Information Officer and IT Director at the Met Office and Christopher Rodrigues, Chair of the British Council who can provide lessons learned of their experiences.

As the Centre for Public Appointments has launched its Diversity Action Plan, we will consider what action can be taken and how chairs can be supported to meet the Government’s ambitious targets to make public boards more inclusive and diverse. Public Appointments Commissioner, Rt Hon. Peter Riddell CBE, will discuss the issues he has identified with increasing diversity. He will be followed by Sydney Roper and Dr Neslyn Watson-Druée CBE from 4i’s Consulting who will be examining why ensuring diversity forms part of good governance and the benefits it can bring to organisations.

Giving evidence to a select committee can be a daunting experience, so PCF members are joined by Chair of the Justice Committee, Bob Neill MP, and Dr Hannah White, Director of Research at the Institute for Government, who will impart invaluable advice on how best to prepare and give evidence to select committees. Bob Neill MP is also a member of the Liaison Committee and the National Security Strategy Committee. Dr White’s previous experience includes running the Committee on Standards on Public Life in the Cabinet Office, the Political and Constitutional Reform Committee in the House of Commons.

As leader of the National Audit Office, he has presided over a vast number of reports scrutinising public spending helping Parliament hold government to account and improve public services. The Public Chairs’ Forum welcomes Sir Amyas as he reflects on the work of the NAO. This is a joint event with the Association of Chief Executives.
